Who We Are
We are looking to connect with people who are concerned to 'Live Church' in an intentional way inspired by the compassionate life of Jesus. Some of us worship at local Church communities located in the downtown urban core of Ottawa and are experimenting with the 'mixed church economy' promoted by former Anglican Archbishop Rowan Williams. We wish to explore more deeply what it is to live an integrated lifestyle spirituality that relates to the struggle of being human--yet seeks to be authentic and fully alive as an intentional community living and sharing in the needs and gifts of our neighborhoods. We are also inspired by the 12 marks of 'new monasticism' that represents a new grass roots ecumenical initiative that strives to be wholistic and inclusive of the wealth and depth of spirituality in the Christian tradition.
What is the nature of a Prayer Retreat House in the Gatineau Hills located just 20 minutes outside of downtown Ottawa?
Well, we are between two worlds...one is of urban need with a number of inner city missions in close proximity, and the other is a more rural environment seeking to experience the serenity of nature in a contemplative prayer context. As Thomas Merton put it years ago we need 'Contemplatives in Action.'
Our unique location allows for both environments to balance and challenge us to seek a contemporary spirituality inspired by the New Monastic and Emerging Church Models--of lifestyle explorations that touch the transcendent in everyday life. It is to experience human and spiritual transformation in our brokenness, and in our healing relationships while often living stress-filled lives. How can we support each other to attain that balance and live in that inner peace?
