Social Justice Reflections

In my spiritual travels certain influences, which I wish to share on this blog, have touched me profoundly--like working in a Catholic Worker House as Director in Montreal, or living in the Red Light District of Amsterdam, Holland as a Christian crisis volunteer with the Urban poor. Writers such as Thomas Merton, Dorthy Day, William Stringfellow and Jean Vanier made me aware of a 'contemplative in action' as balancing a 'prophetic' response to social injustice with a Christ-like compassion is to be authentically human. This is a big part of an 'orthopraxis' spirituality and adherence to the Gospel of Good News in community as a lived experience.

In this blog I hope to share this aspect of a 'contemplative spirituality' that is part of what StrongTower Community seeks to be about in our rural and urban ministry. As one contemporary interpretation of the Gospel put it in the Street Bible, it's about 'the Word on the street'...
